It is awarded for 6 years of faithful active service in the Alabama National Guard, including periodic service in organizations of the National Guard while called, being drafted or ordered into active duty service. This award can be earned more than once after each subsequent 3 years and it is shown by the bronze and silver St. Andrews Cross.
