Ana Bekoach Prayer Necklace on Jerusalem Stone Pendant

Ana Bekoach is a hymn recited during morning prayer, after Parashat HaKorbanot, and in some communities also during Kabbalat Shabbat and after the counting of the Omer. The hymn originated in the Middle Ages and is attributed to the Sage Rabbi Nehunia ben HaKana.

The prayer is made up of seven lines, six words each. According to Kabbalistic tradition, the combined initials of these words make up the 42-letter name of God, mentioned in Masekhet Kiddushin of the Talmud.

Because God's name is mentioned in the hymn, it is followed up with the blessing: "blessed is His Honourable Majesty for all eternity", as is done in other readings mentioning God's name, such as the Shema and the order of the High Priest's worship on Yom Kippur.
