In June 1948, during the War of Independence, the provisional government led by David Ben Gurion decided to draft 17 year-olds for military training to prepare them for battle should the need arise. Thousands of youngsters led by the youth movements responded to the call. Since then the IDF Israeli Defence Forces have been our physical shield and response to the creation, maintenance and security of Israel against all our surrounding foes and enemies.
