OK ! these are the "non recommended" heat sensitive ink pens which might be used for your Elfinbook pages -
The single advantage over the Pilot pens is cost.
If you are like me I usually loose pens more often than run them out, unless it is a very special or expensive pen , even then i loose them. This special ink is a must have for our reusable book pages -loosing the pen also means loosing the use of the book-not good !
Are these pens as good as the Pilots-i would say no -are they cheaper and good enough ( don't tell my boss) -but, yes. and if you do loose one it is not so devastating to your pocket book. that said, if you are sitting down to create a serious work of art- use the expensive one. for normal everyday stuff I believe these are fine.
Other disadvantages:
- They must be bought in bulk (6 in a box minimum- the same cost as a 3 pack of the recommended pens (or buy 12in a box- which brings them down to $2.75 each)
- They take a little while longer to receive as they are not available for e-packet shipping - so expect an extra week or so, depending on where you are.
- Color choice (sort of 3) blue , ah..blue and black
I tried one in my book and it worked just fine.
That is: it wrote and drew well on my elfin pages.
The ink erased with a damp cloth without problems ( mind you that the longest i waited before erasing was about 3 days. i can not say if a longer time will effect the ink one way or another.
I used a hair dryer -it instantly erased -only leaving the faintest traces of the original drawing (2-3%)
I put the pages in the freezer for 10 minutes and the drawing came back to about 85-95% of the original darkness. Note: One does need to be careful with the freezer-as the pages get cold and if there is moisture in the air they will attract condensation-(water) until they come back to room temperature-and damp ink will move if it is touched. Hence the 1st method of erasing (wet cloth or tissue.)
NOW remember these are not recommended --so it is at your own risk to your reusable pages--i believe with attention, care and regular maintenance to your pages they will do just fine -- BUT IT IS UP TO YOU.
AND Please if anyone finds a problem with using these pens on your Efinbook pages- let us all know -so we all can avoid it.
Don't use these for important signatures or documents -after all they are erasable -so common sense everyone.
