The original is in the collection of the British Museum, and has traditionally been dated to the 16th century but may be much later, perhaps late 18th or 19th century. It is in gilt decorated with quatrefoils and raised borders. The bezel represents the page of a book and is engraved in Hebrew Mazel Tov a traditional wish of good luck that is offered to the bridal pair.

There are only about 300 Jewish wedding rings from this period remaining in public and private collections. The majority are quite large and elaborate and were probably meant for ceremonial purposes rather than everyday use. This original of this ring is unusual as the simplicity of its design makes it wearable on a daily basis.
