Animal facts:
Family Cervidae. Known as elk, ruminant mammal native of Canada to Mexico and conspecific w/ the red deer of Europe, northwestern Africa and Asia. Dark brown fur on the head and neck. Full-grown stag stands up to 1.5m high at the shoulder. Grazes and browse on grasses, twigs and leaves. The doe bears a single fawn. Wapiti is known in North America as the moose.
