A little history
Nebraska's history, from pioneering days along the Oregon Trail to the birthplace of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, is long tied to Americana and its flag is a simple, traditional ode to that history.
On a Nebraska football game day, the capacity-filled 90,000-seat stadium on the Lincoln campus becomes the third-largest city in the state... Another proud part of its heritage includes where Charles Lindbergh originally learned to fly.
The state flag design features the Great Seal of the State on a blue background and wasn't adopted until 1925 and first displayed on Jan. 1, 1926 to celebrate New Year's at the State Capitol. As stated: "There is hereby designated a banner for the State of Nebraska which shall consist of a reproduction of the great seal of the state, charged on the center in gold and silver on a field of national blue."
The Seal's symbols include a steamboat on the Missouri River, a smith with hammer and anvil (mechanic arts), a settler's cabin and wheat and corn (agriculture) and railroad cards heading toward the Rocky Mountains. Atop the circle is the State Motto "Equality Before the Law."
The flag of Nebraska is for sale in our U.S. States collection and goes a step beyond the "average" in terms of detail, durability and construction.
