Recently, we were approached by an individual in South Africa. He had access to a small but significant quantity of Pattern 83 and Pattern 70 webbing which had never seen the wider market. Many businesses in South Africa have little to no web presence, so this is not unheard of. Regardless, he wanted to move them, and we quickly arranged for their export.

As a result of this import, we are very pleased to have a small handful of absolutely unissued Pat 70 Kidney rigs. They are in factory-new condition, which is frankly remarkable given that they were manufactured 30–40 years ago.

Based on the venerable British Pattern 58 webbing, the South African Pattern 70 webbing was used during several regional conflicts in the horn of Africa, including the Rhodesian Bush War and the South African Border War. It is easy to see why this is the case, as Pat 70 was a modular, breathable system ideally suited to the climate and landscape of Southern Africa.

Featuring rock-hard canvas construction and magazine pouches attached to every possible surface, Pattern 70 was designed for "bad days." The system is optimized for durability and reliability from the canvas material to the redundant, heavy stitching and chunky, metal D-rings.

The kidney pouches, meant to carry spare ammunition belts for the squad's machine gunner, are non-removable on the army version of the webbing we have in stock. Aside from these permanently attached pouches, the Pattern 70 system is highly modular. Holsters, canteen pouches, additional ammunition, and even a small backpack can all be attached to the main system in seconds. These components were produced in relatively large numbers and can be found individually online. This means that you can build your Pattern 70 system however you'd like.

  • Suspender set adjusted by buckles and secured with metal clip
