These portable mechitzas are hand-woven from 5mm thick solid wood strips, prepared in our studio from African Walnut. The design allows for a separation that is complete, but light, both for portability and for feel. They can be made in many configurations and measurements. The woven pattern could influence entire panels, as shown, or just to top or bottom of the mechitza to add texture and to allow sound to travel. The panel connections are influenced by the portable walls of mishkan as described in the Torah. This connection can also be used in various constructions.
